Time for Mother

Welcome to the seventh edition of A Living Education E-zine!

Charlotte Mason

Weekly I get emails or phone calls where I hear a mom say that they never have time for themselves. For different moms this means different things. Some would just like to do their grocery shopping on their own, others want to browse in a bookstore and still others want to pursue an interest. For me, it has been building this website .

I have written about the need to take time out on my Titus2 pages . This ezine’s theme is going to be a reminder to you. I know the loving sacrifice that it is to homeschool your children when others around you are quite happy to place their precious children into school for 8 hours a day.

The key, for me, is finding some time in my day to pray and for ensuring my health and fitness. For you it may be something different, but whatever it is, be sure to do it – it comes with blessing from Charlotte Mason. Even a much admired woman, the Proverbs 31 woman, found time for herself…begin to make this habit today.

Family and Sibling Play

We are enjoying our holidays. Our first week was spent away from home. I have put up some photos of our informal nature study at my seasonal nature study page.

Nature study does not have to be a burden, it is simply enjoying nature. Families can do lots of this informally and for those children who do not like to draw, a camera is an option. These photos your children can then scrapbook. If you are new to nature study be sure to read my easy start up article called Nature Study for Life

Organizational Tips

The long awaited laundry page has finally appeared on my organized mom pages. A friend who proof reads my pages for me commented that she now felt incredibly unorganized in the laundry department after reading how I do laundry. But she also said that she knows that her system works. Please do not see my way of doing laundry as prescriptive, but if you are looking for a system be sure to check it out!

Romantic Ideas

Last week my husband and I did our annual film watching of the new 007 movie. I know this may not be everyone’s choice but my husband is an avid Bond fan. A friend helped us out by having all our children for the cheaper afternoon show.

To pay her back we had her children so that she and her husband could go out for dinner. Do you have a friend who can be a reciprocal babysitter?

Quote

“But, if we would do our best for our children, grow we must; and on our power of growth surely depends, not only our future happiness, but our future usefulness.” Charlotte Mason Parents Review Volume III, no. 2 1892-93 of The Parents' Review, pp 92-95

Living books

Sonlight Curriculum has their Christmas Sale on at the moment. In the theme of caring for our own minds, the two books I chose for myself amongst the many that I chose for my children were: I dared to call Him Father by Bilquis Sheik and God’s Smuggler by Brother Andrew. I look forward to reading these during the holidays.

Other updates to Homeschool Curriculum for Life

I recently stumbled onto the world of E-books. I have added a selection of books to my site which you may be interested in. E-books have the great benefit of saving you in shipping. I also have recommended two art and craft E-books for you on my art ideas page.

For my South Africa readers, I know that during our December holidays it is also necessary to begin planning for the upcoming school year. Part of this preparation is to get our hearts and minds ready. Please be sure to read A-B-C’s for homeschool moms and my homeschool vision article.

Lastly I would like to wish you great blessings for your Christmas season, however you celebrate it!

Take care until next time,
God’s richest blessings to you as you homeschool,
Wendy
