  • The following horse story book review is an all time classic for horse lovers of all generations

    My Friend Flika,
    Mary O Hara

Ken lives on his father’s ranch in Wyoming. He longs for a colt to be his companion. Flika’s mother is wild and uncontrollable. So when she is born, Ken’s Dad wants to get rid of her. Ken convinces his dad to allow him to raise and own the colt. Ken and Flika have to get through sickness and strife, but remain inseparable.

    Silver Brumby Series, Elyne Mitchell

The Brumby’s are an endangered species of horse found in the Australian Outback. There is an element of fantasy in these books in which the horses talk and think like people in their fight to stay alive and free.

The following two horse book reviews are my favorite tutor type books for beginner horse riders.

First Riding Lessons – Kingfisher Riding Club, Sandy Randford
Even if you are not riding yet, this book with its gorgeous photographs will show you how to perform pre riding basics like tacking up. The book also covers basic and advanced riding skills from sitting positions to trotting and galloping to jumping.

Horse and Pony Care - Kingfisher Riding Club, Sandy Randford

Another beautifully photographed “how to” book to teach young riders to give their ponies (real and hoped for) the best possible care.
