Adventure Books for BoysThese adventure books for boys have been arranged in age order, which means that children from 9 - 13+ can read them. The first ones listed on this page are for younger ones, the later ones for older boys. e sure to check out my Christian fantasy and sci fi books too!
We have also given you parental guidance notes as some of the books have elements of war and spy related violence. Famous FiveEverybody love's Enid Blyton and these next two series are great starter adventure books for boys. The Famous Five is set in England friends and cousins goe on many an adventure to catch the "baddies" and find the treasure. Her first book was published in 1942 "Five on Treasure Island" and paved the way for a series of books that totalled 21 titles.
Secret SevenAnother great series for young adventure seekers. Enid Blyton Secret Seven totals 15 books in this series based on a "secret gang" of seven children who are junior sleuths! Great follow on adventure books for boys!
Hardy Boys
FW Dixon is the pseudonym under which a series of ghost writers wrote this collection of books. The original series began in 1925 and ended in 2005 and then the more recent Case Files or Undercover Brothers was released. My son has enjoyed both series, but do note that the more recent series is much more current and reflects current world trends in writing.
Alex ShearerBritish author Alex Shearer writes with humor and his characters range from true people to fictional characters. He has written more than 15 books. The 4 below are our favorites.
Percy Jackson - Rick RiordanThe first book has just been made into a movie and we all enjoyed it, besides for one scary moment! But these books are definate adventure books for boys who enjoy an overlap between old and new!
Bear GryllsBear (Edward) Grylls is well known for all Discovery Channel viewers for his survival programs. The one book is on his amazing feat of being one of the youngest Britons to ever climb Everest. The other two are fictional adventure books for boys. Bear has a career that spans wild challenges and SAS training. A great boys hero!
Craig SimpsonBritish author Craig Simpson writes fictional stories based on historical events. Dogfight and Resistance both deal with the resistance movement during WW2. Please note there is quite a bit of war violence in these stories. They are for older readers.
Louis L'AmourThis self educated author has more than 100 titles to his name which delight older boys with stories of the Wild West. This was a time when "men were men" and the books have strong male characters, who knew right from wrong, worked hard and supported their woman.
My suggestion is to get started with "Kilkenny" and if your son takes to the writer's style and story lines, then invest in some of these
Louis L'Amour
For parents, I do suggest that you read his biography: Education of a Wandering Man
