Caring for your spiritCaring for your spirit is about getting your priorities straight as a busy homeschool mom.
Then it’s back to the drawing board to train and discipline myself in getting to bed earlier and waking before my household to have this time with my Lord. From here stems my desire to be kind and generous to my husband, to love and train my children and be busy in my own home. I find that if my heart and mind are not renewed by God then these things become a drag and I am tossed about on the waves of the 21st century. Time spent tending to my spirit is the platform on which to add the other things I need to become fulfilled in my role as woman, wife and mother. It also helps me prioritize what I do in the other categories and when. Many homeschool moms feel a tugging to do things out of season like I did when I tried (and managed) to build a direct book selling business when one of my children were tiny and needed me more than a book business. I often wonder at the passage in Ecclesiastes about a time and a season for everything, and it is always my prayer that God helps me to enjoy the season I am in. The desire to not rush into a season prematurely comes from this time with the Lord. The longer I walk this homeschooling journey, the more I know that this has to be the starting point for everything we do and desire for our lives – time in the presence of God, undistracted and not asking but listening. I cannot over emphasize the importance of this crucial starting point. There may be many times where I have not attended to the growth of my mind
or something to do with my hands, but it is this act of sitting in God’s presence, reading His Bible, seeking the Holy Spirits guidance in all I do,
should it be neglected, that will cause my balls I juggle to come crashing down.
