Footprints On Our Land
South Africa's Heritage
Below you will find an in depth look at one of the Footprints On Our Land programs.
This is a literature based unit study looking at the early history of South Africa.
Footprints is a fascinating literature driven unit study journey through the history and country of magnificent South Africa.
This study will ignite in your children a love of literature, a love of learning and a love for South Africa.
You will study the footprints of South Africa’s predecessors, and perhaps, in so doing, leave your own impressions.
This curriculum has been birthed out of the need for a literature-based, homegrown study of South African heritage among home educating families in South Africa.
It was written by two homeschooling moms who collaborated their unique skills, homeschooling experience and love for South Africa.
Since literature spans all learning styles, many of the activities can be done with a wide range of ages in our one-room schoolhouses.
Footprints Heritage Program is designed for multi-level learning, so it will challenge and stimulate older children adequately.
The literature chosen is for children in Grade 3 and up, but this does not mean that the younger children will not follow the stories
or that older children will get bored.
Footprints – South Africa’s Heritage offers:
A full scope and sequence of South Africa’s history from the time of the San until the twentieth century.
The books that form the basis of the studies were chosen for historical content, high literary standard, interesting plots and moral and Christian fiber.
Lesson plans based on quality children’s literature by South African authors.
Study themes incorporating history, science, geography, nature study, hands on activities and language arts.
A Charlotte Mason-style language program, based on the natural way of acquiring language skills, using narration as the main tool for learning but copy work, recitation, dictation and creative writing is used as well. These assignments are suggested for you in the Curriculum Guide
A carefully chosen list of more than 24 books that will ignite your children’s thought environment and enrich them in knowledge and character.
A comprehensive Curriculum Guide, four non-fiction books and a South African dry-write map are also included to give you a well-rounded program.
Each book is summarized for you at the beginning of the lessons, and possible field trips, internet websites, and additional reading material for further study are listed.
The manual will have scheduled dictation and narration and Bible study sections.
The core books are supplied but we also give you an extensive list of books that you can add to your daily reading.
Footprints on Our Land was designed primarily for South African Homeschooling families but it is now used in 13 countries world wide by ex-pats as well
as those countries residents.
It will appeal to all learning styles as the reference books are visual, the reading books, auditory and there are just enough hands on
activities to not overwhelm moms, but enough to cater for the kinesthetic learner.
To complete your child’s curriculum you will need to add
grammar
and
maths
to the program. The estimated completion of this program is 1 year to 18 months.
