Homeschoolers College Admissions Handbook by Cafi Cohen

This book is top of my list when it comes to a well rounded book about high school home schooling. The author not only talks you through how to get admitted to college but she has drawn on the larger homeschool community to share their high school home schooling experiences and college stories.

Added to that she also spends some time discussing other ways for teens to find employment, build resumes and create apprenticeship opportunities. It's definitely my favorite book on this topic.

Barb Shelton takes you on a journey with her own family as she shows you how to take your teens real life experiences and use them for "bones" for the High School years. There are a few things that I needed to get my head around in Barb?s book - the changing fonts, the small print and her many side bars. But when you finish this huge book you have such hope and excitement for your child?s senior schooling career.

She shows how you can allow for your child?s delights to be counted towards high school credits and not feel like high school is the time to plug all the gaps. I am sure that Mrs. Shelton is one of the most diligent record keepers I have ever known. She has blank forms covering every conceivable topic that you could ever possibly want to cover with a high school student before their university or college years.

She covers what she calls Wisdom's Seven Pillars of True Education and gives many examples how she achieved this with her two oldest children.

1. Revelation of the Knowledge of God and His will

2. Closer relationship with God

3. Preparation for roles in life

4. Preparation for Specific Life Calling/purpose

5. Character development

6. Basic foundation of knowledge to function in society

7. Equip with the tools to learn for life

This is not a book for a parent who likes things cut and dried with lots of blocks to tick. Barb's heart comes through very clearly in her writing - even at this stage of your child's school career, you can trust God to lead you in the schooling of your teen.
