Homeschool Vision - The BIG pictureWe moms have the tendency to get bogged down with nitty-gritty of the day-to-day schooling process.
We need more than ever to have a Homeschool Vision.
Generational BlessingsWe start off knowing that we need to do this “thing” but often we do not push ahead and stay awake and aware with regards to the vision of the generational blessing that God will bestow on us as home educating families. Dads seem to grasp this more than moms, even if they are sometimes slower in jumping into the choice to home educate. For those who are starting out and the other more seasoned parents, let me lead you on a journey. Our starting point is accepting that we are responsible for the spiritual condition of our children. By this I mean we can either lead them to the way everlasting or we can place stumbling blocks in their way. While the unwise usage of curriculum and trying to keep up with “a well rounded” education as well as running a home can cause moms to burn out, there is something else that is much more able to burn us out. The NIV says: And the Message: “If people can’t see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves. But when they attend to what He reveals, they are most blessed.” The King James says: “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” Vickie Farris, mom to 10 children, says in her book A Mom Just Like You : “I doubt that the ancient Hebrew mother, who taught her children as she baked bread, swept the house, and beat out the rugs had any notion that her people would still be living 2000 years later. Neither is it easy for us, as we teach our kids phonics and feed them peanut butter sandwiches to see just what God can do through our faithfulness. I firmly believe that through us God can touch future generations is mighty ways.”
She also says: “The life of a home school mom is about much more than textbooks and dirty dishes.
As we ordinary home school moms give ourselves to create Christ-centered homes, we show the self-sacrificial love of Jesus to a hurting world.
As our children grow, they can go forth into the world as “arrows in the hands of a mighty warrior.” And as our grandchildren and great-grandchildren are trained to serve God, our spiritual heritage can become deeper, richer, and more widespread throughout our community, our nation, and even our world.”
“And let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we shall reap if we do not grow weary” (Galatians 6:9). Dr Patricia Morgan in her book - How to Raise Children of Destiny - says that we first need to understand the purpose of our children being born, which is:
Then we need to see that God gives us promises for our seed:
And our role as parents is to:
This is the global picture. What you are doing now in the decision to home educate is not about maths and phonics and solar system models it is about the blessing that you will bring into the next generation as your children grow in the maturity and stature of the Lord and pass this onto their children who will in turn pass all your knowledge and their own onto the next.
In the Message, Matthew 7 says: “Don’t look for any shortcuts to God. The market is flooded with sure fire easy going formulas for a successful life that can be practiced in your spare time. Don’t fall for that stuff. The way to life - to God- is vigorous and requires total attention.”
When we look at scripture there is a pattern of how God uses the humble to accomplish His purposes. He also calls individuals from obscure and unknown places or families to change the world. We look at David from a hilltop, Jesus - raised in a tiny village and Saul hiding away. Even modern day people like Brother Yun from a backwater in China! “This is inherent in the child, the accumulated wisdom and hope of the previous generations as well as the addition of new truth. If the purpose of the older generation is to teach the young, then the young will certainly gain all that the older generation has to teach, as well as the accumulated experience of the forefathers.” Dr P Morgan, How to Raise Children of Destiny. So every day as you go about teaching your precious ones to pick up their clothes, or learn to read or about the natural surroundings around your home...remember that you are training them for a much greater purpose.
