Lindas Day With Older Children

Linda is a homeschooling mom to 5 children aged 18 to 7. Linda's day with older children follows on from when her children were younger.

I posted recently about a typical family day with young children I'd also like to share about our typical day now that our children are older. We begin implementing more academics once our children begin to show the fruitful character qualities of diligence and responsibility in their daily home routines.

AFTERNOON
(General overview: Time for all four children to work together)
(Working on respecting each other in tone of speech as they help each other)
12:00-1:00 Lunch
1:00-2:00
Complete projects from previous days or Work on compositions

2:00-3:00
History reading and projects

3:00-3:30
Science experiments

Each of the three younger children has plenty of free time during the morning to just be children and play. Our afternoon projects and reading spur their imaginations for playing together during their mornings. My older daughter attends the community college during the day (I miss her!), and my 13 yos is a very serious student these days, preferring to excel academically rather than play like he did when he was younger. It's a bitter-sweet transition for me as the mom to have my two older ones become... well, older :-); but I'm so thankful for their diligence and character growth that enables them to pursue their interests so intently.

During the evenings, we do a variety of things, including watching videos about history and science; reading; singing; playing instruments; and playing games. Sometimes the children will complete their desk work during the evening while I'm working (I work from home) and my husband is helping to get everyone ready for bed.

I hope this peek into another mom's life routines encourages others.
