New mother and uncertain about how homeschooling

by Naomi
(WA)

I really have a desire in my mind..(notice I am not sure about heart) to homeschool my little boy. He is 2 yrs old. I was homeschooled and can appreciate what I had. I want to give that to my little boy. I am uncertain about how to go about doing it however. I am not an organized person like my rock star 9 yrs older than me sisters and their 4 homeschooled children..but I do honestly want this for my son. I just have no self esteem or confidence with this. Are there some good books out there for me to read about jump starting my path towards homeschooling my young one? I want tangible reading material in my hands and have found 100 top picks by Cathy Duffy.. I don't know if that is the FIRST book I should read though. Notice i'm caught up in what's first and how too... I am just plain uncertain. I want to learn more about homeschooling so that I can feel confident in teaching my boy. I know God has pulled me ever closer to the idea. At first (when he was first born etc...) I was not in the mindset that I would/could/should homeschool..now I am leaning more and more in the direction of allowing myself to consider more and more. I just want some good direction with books and experienced authors whom have walked the walk etc...I am sorry if this is horribly long and boring.. but I enjoy your website.. it's slightly hard to read just the way it's formatted.. but I still love what you have to say. Sorry if I am asking a question that has already been asked.. I just feel stranded and want so desperately to find help.

Thank you,

Naomi

You can do this!

Hi, Naomi!
I firmly believe the only prerequisite for homeschooling is a God-given desire on the part of the parents. If He is taking you down this path, He will supply your every need. God often calls us to tasks that are far too large for us. Homeschooling (and parenting in general) sure keep us dependant!
Try not to compare yourself to your sisters or other seemingly more capable moms. God chose you as your son's mother for a reason. You are exactly the person He has in mind to build into the life of your son. Organizational skills can be learned, and even if they never becomes your strong suit I am sure you have other character and personality traits that will shine as you step forward in faith to minister to your son. No one else will care about his education and development like you will! So that's something right there.
I am a big reader (parenting books, etc.), but honestly I have found so much great online homeschooling information that I have never felt the need for an actual book. Here are some of my favorite links for early homeschooling:
