Parenting Books for Boys
These parenting books for boys will help you to achieve the goal of raising our sons to be future men.
This job needs to be carefully done in this 21st century when feminist thinking pervades all areas of life, even the church.
Most title links go through to Amazon.com. If you are South African, you will find it more conveniant to order through
Kalahari.net
or Loot.co.za
Wild at Heart, John Eldridge
Ok, well…this is not actually a parenting book for boys, but it is definitely a book for any parent of boys!
Eldridge writes to men who need to regain their hearts. How much better would it be to send our sons off from home with their hearts in tact?
Bringing up Boys, Dr Dobson
Everyone acknowledges Dr Dobson as the leader in parenting.
His book is a well rounded “argument” to keep our boys and raise our boys to become future men.
I found some of the statistics overwhelming but Dobson’s heart shines through.
Raising Boys, Steve Biddulph
Although not written from a Christian perspective, Biddulph has an insight into boys that is astounding.
In this parenting book for boys, he has shared some wonderful ways to help our sons grow into strong young men, strong in heart, body and vision.
There was one chapter about homosexuality which we ignored.
“What’s needed is something that will engage the spirit of the boy – pull him headlong into some creative effort or passion that gives his life wings.”
Steven Biddulph
Future Men, Douglas Wilson
Future Men is about raising sons that are virtuous, strong and free from the slants of todays culture.
He shows ways of coming alongside our boys and mentoring them in a faith and grace based relationship.
”When Theodore Roosevelt taught Sunday school for a time, a boy showed up one Sunday with a black eye.
He admitted he had been fighting and on a Sunday too. He told the future president that a bigger boy had been pinching his sister, and so he fought him.
TR told him that he had done perfectly right and gave him a dollar. The stodgy vestrymen thought this was a bit much,
and so they let their exuberant Sunday school teacher go. What a loss."
Raising a Modern Day Knight, Robert Lewis
This is a parenting book for Dads and sons. The author helps you to raise a godly and chivalrous young man. The
Raising a Modern Day Knight website
has so many other tools and audio’s to help too. Be sure to visit there!
Boyhood daze Dave Meuer
Mr Meuer said he initially wanted to title his book “You are Doomed” but didn’t think it would sell with that title.
I have so enjoyed his lighthearted look at the fun side of raising boys. He makes no excuses and pulls the wool off
your eyes as he talks through issues around having a dog to teach your children the principle of being adopted into God’s family,
or having a camping trip with them to build character. I have been in peels of laughter as I have "seen his home" with boys, in my own home.
A must buy!
I Kissed Dating Goodbye Joshua Harris
Don’t skip over this title if your boys are still little.
I know that it takes time to change mindsets and the teen years will approach faster that you now.
Joshua published this book when he was 21.
It takes the ideals that we as Christian parents have for our children with regards to purity,
purposeful singleness and courtship amongst others - and gives us a blue print on how and why of no dating.
His follow on book Boy Meets Girl
is another to read in preparation for issues around dating and marriage. Please note that this book is just
as relevant for those raising daughters!
Preparing Sons to Provide for a Single-Income Family Steve Maxwell
Steve is a homeschool dad to 8 children.
His oldest two sons have both been able to purchase their first homes cash.
Steve shares his step by step mentoring system that he has with his sons from the time they
are young on money and saving. He talks about issues of working with a happy heart.
Their goal was to help their sons be able to support their families so that they were able to support
their wives and families on one income.
Contenders of the Faith and A Young Man After God's Heart are both reviewed on my
