Promises for a New Year

As 2007 began I went before God and asked Him for His perspective on my year – to give me promises for a New Year. There have been years in the past where I have made lists of New Year resolutions which never came to pass. My mind was willing to see them through but my body and heart could not.

So instead of overburdening my life with things which were not appointed to me in this season – this time of my life – I believe God gave me a plan of action which any homeschooling mom can implement with God’s guidance and the Holy Spirit’s help.

Grab your Bible and come with me on a journey into the promises for a New Year found in Proverbs 3. (I suggest you read it in full before heading into my notes.)

Promises

Scripture

Action

Promise

Proverbs 3:1 – 2

Do not forget God’s teachings

Long life and prosperity

Proverbs 3:3 – 4

Bind love and faithfulness around my neck, write on the tablet of my heart

Win favor and a good name in the sight of the Lord and man.

Proverbs 3:5 – 6

Trust in the Lord with all my heart, lean not on my own understanding

He will make my paths straight

Proverbs 3:7 – 8

Do not be wise in my own eyes, fear the Lord, shun evil.

Health to my body and nourishment to my bones.

Proverbs 3:9 – 10

Honor the Lord with my wealth and firstfruits

My barns will overflow and vats will brim over.

Proverbs 3:11 – 12

Do not despise the Lord’s discipline

Know that He loves me like a parent does a child

Proverbs 3:13 – 20

Find wisdom

Nothing I desire can compare to her.

Proverbs 3:21 – 24

Preserve sound judgment and discernment

I will go in safety and my sleep will be sweet.

Proverbs 3:25 – 26

Do not fear sudden disaster

The Lord will keep my foot from being snared.

Proverbs 3:27 – 28

Do not withhold good from those who deserve it

The Lord’s curse will be on the wicked but on the house of the wise will be honor.

Often we need to be reminded of these things when we start running after curriculum, extra murals and living life. But with these guidelines we have God’s voice on what our focus should be for each day. These things work themselves out as we love and serve our families.

If you, like me, need a reminder you can print off this chart and put it in a visible spot where you can read it regularly and meditate on these things. I believe God has addressed in this scripture the promises for a New Year that I need to concern myself with this year...and then all else will follow.
