While I am a firm believer in letting little ones just enjoy their young years by being close by moms side as she goes about her day, moms often look for activities to do with their small children. As long as these activities are secondary to teaching them the basic morals and values and obedience that is required for future years, there is no harm in planning some educational activities each day.

Sonlight Pre K is designed for young children aged 4 & 5. It is designed to gently introduce your preschool child to God’s world. As Sonlight is a literature based program, you will find 29 of the most splendid books to read with your children.

You also receive two small booklets which lead you through this new adventure with your early learner. They are meant to be your guide as you adjust to a life of homeschooling. Sonlight K is geared for children 5 – 7 years of age. With this program, you and your child go on a world wide tour looking at different global civilizations, biomes and basic technology.

Part of the package is fabulous read alouds. These will warm your heart, tickle your funny bone and make your child think deeply about people in other social circumstances to their own in these early learning years.

At this level, Sonlight gives you the choice as to whether you would like to begin your child on their reading journey. You can either begin to introduce the alphabet and short vowel words or you can choose an advanced reader program, depending on the needs of your child.

Readers are chosen with the highest standards and generally always have a moral or historical context. But of course, there are some good old favorites from Dr Seuss!

Science is given a fun dimension by the addition of a DVD to go along with your science experiment book. These DVD’s which go up to Grade 3, show and explain to your child the scientific principal that they are learning. The young adult on the DVD is as a mentor to your child as he leads you through the exciting world of science.

To guide you through your learning adventure you have a comprehensive instructor’s guide which becomes your safety net as you begin to find your way as a homeschool mom.

I found as I began to homeschool my first child, I relied on the guide heavily, but due to its nature, it taught me as well as my child. By the time my second and third children moved into this age and grade, I was set up to win by having walked the road before. Thus the guide became a handy reference for me and no longer a task master.
